The export of an E57 point cloud from PinPoint is generally possible. However, it is important to note from which module the E57 file is exported.
PinPoint Registration Module
The following options are available and explained below.
Important: In all three options, location-based E57 files are created. This means that, in addition to the point cloud, a panorama image (bubble views) is also saved in the E57 file.
Export Options:
- Write to a file – All viewpoints are written into the E57 file.
- Reflectivity – Instead of color values, grayscale-converted reflection values are written into the point cloud.
- Deleted points – Here, points are removed from the export. This option should only be activated if necessary, as the E57 format usually marks deleted points as invalid rather than removing them.
Alternative Export – Unstructured E57 Point Cloud
In addition to direct export, there is a hidden export function under File → Export → Combined Point Cloud. This is particularly useful for CAD transfer, as it allows for targeted data reduction.
57 Export from PinPoint Modeler
If the data is already in the PinPoint Modeler, you can use the function: File → Export → Output Point Cloud. Note that only an unstructured point cloud is exported here.
